US initiates steps to implement the nuclear deal signed with India 14 years ago

New Delhi: The US has prepared to implement the nuclear deal with India 14 years ago. In 2008, India and the US signed the Civil Nuclear Energy Cooperation Agreement. But the two countries had big differences on issues like the Nuclear Liability Act. Due to this, the benefit of this agreement was not taken by both countries. But with the major changes taking place at the international level, the United States seems to have remembered this agreement with India.

US initiates steps to implement the nuclear deal signed with India 14 years agoAfter the conflict in Ukraine, fuel prices in the international market were tight. The US pressured European and other countries to stop buying fuel from Russia and imposed restrictions on Russian fuel exports. Europe and other countries have also been affected. All countries have realized that such situations make it imperative to use alternative energy sources. The US has also taken steps for this and has taken the initiative to provide nuclear power to India, where the energy demand is increasing enormously. US Deputy Secretary of Energy Resources Geoffrey Ross Pyatt visited India and discussed increasing nuclear energy cooperation between the two countries.

In 2008, India and the US concluded the Civil Nuclear Energy Cooperation Agreement. India is known as a country with huge energy demand. Since the United States has been a leading country in energy production, its cooperation with India was considered a natural matter. However, this cooperation could not take the expected speed because US companies eager to set up nuclear power plants in India were not acceptable to India’s Nuclear Liability Act. Due to being unable to agree on this and some other points, this cooperation could not materialize despite the nuclear agreement between India and the United States.

But now, the situation has changed and the demand for energy in India, which is running on economic horses, will continue to increase in the future. At the same time, India should go beyond conventional fuel alternatives and use nuclear energy, the interests of the United States are also hidden in this because US companies can benefit from this. In this background, Geoffrey Ross Pyatt, Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Energy Resources, visited India and tried to implement the Civil Nuclear Energy Agreement between the two countries.

In an interview with PTI, Pyatt said that working on issues that hinder the agreement’s implementation is necessary. Pyatt also pointed out that there have been major changes in the civil nuclear power industry.

Currently, the US is taking the lead in developing small and low-capacity nuclear reactors. Pyatt believed that this model could also be useful for India. Also, in green hydrogen, the United States can cooperate with India to a large extent, Peyote has claimed.

India becomes natural partner of US – US Congress member claims

Washington: As US companies prepare to diversify their supply chains, India is a natural partner for the US, claimed US Congressman Ami Bera. India’s Air India to buy 220 passenger planes from US company Boeing. This transaction of nearly $34 billion will employ one million people in 44 US states. Ami Bera, a member of the US Congress, highlighted the importance of the economic cooperation of the United States with India by giving an example of this transaction.

While US companies are aware of the need to diversify their supply chain, Congressman Bera realised that India is a good choice for this. Also, Ami Bera pointed out that the United States will get huge financial benefits from cooperation with India by reminding that one million people will be employed in the United States due to the agreement between Air India and Boeing.

Furthermore, India’s pharmaceutical sector is very advanced. Besides, India has made great strides on the technological front in the defence manufacturing industry. Historically, India is a neutral country without participating in any faction and today, India has become a very big economic power. Also, India is an important partner country of the United States on the maritime security front. Along with this, Ami Bera added that India’s trade partnership with the US is developing.

While giving this information about India, Bera warned that Chinese President Xi Jinping is taking his country in a different direction. Bera also put his finger on China’s aggressive activities in India’s north-eastern border and the work of China under the leadership of Xi Jinping to ruin the country by trapping Sri Lanka’s economy in a debt trap. In such a situation, the United States should make efforts to develop India, Japan, South Korea and other European countries. The continent of Africa is also now aware of China’s economic trap. Bera Yani also pointed out that the number of Indians living in African countries is very large.

Meanwhile, Ami Bera realised that the importance of the United States’ cooperation with India on economic and other fronts had increased enormously in such a situation. Some representatives of the people in the United States and a group of media and analysts are commenting on India’s democracy. In such a situation, these statements made by the US representative of Indian origin, Ami Bera, highlighting the importance of cooperation with India, are proving to be a slap to the anti-India group in the United States.
