Caracas: – The United States has imposed stringent sanctions on Russia, given the Russia-Ukraine war, has started to pressurise Russian allies. In the last few days, the US leaders warned India, China, and Brazil over Russia’s stance. After that, efforts are being made to pressurise the Latin American countries. US media reported that a high-level delegation visited Venezuela on Saturday.
Moreover, officials from the White House and the state department visited Venezuela on Saturday. The names of the officials have been withheld and the White House and the state department have refused to share any information regarding the visit. Therefore, guesses are being made regarding the visit of the US delegation.
The United States has imposed heavy sanctions against the Venezuelan Dictator Nicolas Maduro and his administration. An unsuccessful attempt to overthrow his government has also been made. Venezuela increased its closeness to Russia and China, given these US activities. It is being said that Russia has established a secret military base in Venezuela and a few years ago, Russian bombers also had visited the country.
A few days ago, senior Russian leaders had visited Venezuela. It had been revealed that President Maduro had consented to increase military cooperation with Russia during this visit. The visit of the US delegation in this situation becomes significant. Some analysts claimed that the visit of the US delegation was to assess the possibility of importing oil from Venezuela, reeling under the burden of sanctions.
