US is at the risk of civil war, warns investor Ray Dalio

Washington – Leading US investor Ray Dalio issued a serious warning that the current economic situation and the vast disparity in US citizens’ dreams, aspirations, and values would push the United States into a civil war. In the article posted over LinkedIn, Dalio has pointed out the challenges posed by Russia and China. It is the second warning issued by Dalio about the civil war in three months.

US media think tanks, analysts and even former military officials consistently draw attention to the conflicts and violence due to growing political polarisation and divisive tendencies. Media and analysts have claimed that such incidents have increased since 2020. The violence carried out by the Black Lives Matter group, the presidential elections held at the end of 2020, its result and the violence perpetrated by Trump supporters in the US Congress are said to be responsible for this.

But at the same time, he has also pointed out the current economic situation in the United States, which has a higher fiscal deficit, increased taxes, rising inflation and economic disparity. The economic crisis combined with the growing political divide could push the United States into a civil war. There has been growing support for public appeasement policies and extreme ideologies, which can cause a build-up to a civil war in future. Dalio warned that the conflicts arising out of these issues could quickly turn violent.

Dalio expressed concern about encouraging extreme ideologies and social divide, which seem to be the only priority for the political class with total disregard for the law. Dalio has also claimed in his article that historically, tax increase and reduced government spending at the time of large-scale economic disparity and in a bad state of the economy is often conducive for a civil war or be a trigger for revolution.
