Western pressure could lead to failure of Ukraine counter-offensive campaign - ex-US military officer warns

Washington/Kyiv: Ben Hodges, a former US military officer, has warned that the counter-offensive campaign against Russia could fail if continued pressure is put on Ukraine. The UK’s former army chief has warned Ukraine will have to win the battle against Russia this year, or it will lose arms aid. The comments come amid reports that the Ukrainian president has secured assurances of major arms supplies from the United Kingdom and France during his visit to Europe.

In the past few months, the issue of Ukraine’s ‘Spring Counter-offensive’ has been constantly coming to the fore. Ukraine’s announcement in this regard, Western countries’ training and arms supply, and Ukraine’s possible plans are widely publicized by Western media, analysts and systems. But in the last few days, conflicting statements have started coming from Ukrainian leaders and officials.

Some officials have claimed that attacks on Russia in recent weeks were part of a counterattack. Some Ukrainian leaders have said they will not carry out the same campaign against Russia as it did last year. Ukraine’s president’s advisers warned that the counterattack campaign was not a decisive battle. Ukrainian President Zelenskiy said the counterattacks would take more time, and preparations were underway.

Some analysts and former officials claim that these statements coming from Ukraine are coming from the pressure of the West on Ukraine. The warning from the former US military official is also part of this. ‘The West is putting tremendous pressure on Ukraine. The counterattack is being portrayed as a preparation for a total victory. There is a fear that this campaign will fail due to such pressure,’ Hodges warned.

Meanwhile, it is coming to light that the UK has announced a huge arms deal during Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s Europe visit. It included long-range ‘attack drones’ along with new missiles.
