Situation in Lebanon is dangerous, warns United NationsSince the last year, Lebanon has been facing social and economic crises. France assisted Lebanon in rebuilding the economy. But the Lebanese economy did not benefit much from this assistance. Najat Rochdi, the UN special representative for Lebanon, presented his observations regarding the situation in Lebanon in the meeting held in Geneva.

Rochdi expressed concern that the food grain and fuel shortages developing worldwide because of the Ukraine conflict are drastically affecting Lebanon, which is already sinking. Nearly 2.2 million people from Lebanon are in dire need of food security. Situation in Lebanon is dangerous, warns United NationsLebanon has a population of only 6.9 million. Rochdi warned that almost two-thirds of this population could face starvation.

One-third of the population in the country is unemployed, and half of these are youth. Rochdi pointed out that the World Bank has already warned that the Gross Domestic Product of Lebanon will decline by 6.5%. Therefore, a dense possibility of Lebanon collapsing is surfacing. The political stability required to tide over this economic crisis is missing in Lebanon, which would prove to be the most lethal issue.
