Saudi Arabia will certainly recognise Israel if Palestine issue is resolved – Saudi Foreign Minister

Davos: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan announced that Riyadh would definitely recognise Israel if Tel Aviv accepted its demand for an independent Palestine along with its other demands. The Saudi Foreign Minister made this announcement at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos. Previously, Saudi Arabia had announced its eagerness to cooperate with Israel. It is noteworthy that the Saudi ambassador appointed to the UK presented his country’s stance regarding Israel only last week. However, after this, the Saudi Foreign Minister’s announcement of giving recognition to Israel is attracting much attention.

Saudi Arabia will certainly recognise Israel if Palestine issue is resolved‘It is necessary to establish peace in the Gulf, and Israel’s cooperation will be important for it. Even so, Israel should establish peace with Palestine before that happens,’ Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal said as he expressed his expectation. The Saudi Foreign Minister replied affirmatively and said ‘definitely’ when asked if Saudi Arabia would recognise Israel as part of broader political cooperation. Prince Faisal also said, ‘The creation of an independent Palestine was necessary for regional stability. For this, Saudi Arabia has been working with the US for the last few years.’

For the past few months, the Saudi leadership has been responding positively to Israel’s cooperation. Even before the United Nations General Assembly in September last year, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had said, ‘We are eager to establish cooperation with Israel.’ At the same time, Prince Turki, an influential member of the Saudi royal family and former ambassador, had also announced that cooperation with Israel was possible. Analysts were drawing attention to the fact that two senior members of the Saudi royal family have agreed to cooperate with Israel.

Prince Khalid bin Bandar, the Saudi ambassador to the UK, provided information last week that efforts to cooperate between Saudi Arabia and Israel have been taking place since even before 1982. Nevertheless, on Tuesday, the Saudi Foreign Minister shocked those who were raising slogans and threatening Israel’s destruction by showing readiness to recognise Israel.
