Moscow: Russia has welcomed the applications filed by Bangladesh and Egypt to be part of the influential BRICS group of developing countries. The issue of expanding BRICS will be discussed in August, and then a decision will be taken on the applications of Bangladesh and Egypt, announced the Russian Foreign Ministry. At the same time, Russia rejected Macron’s demand, saying that the presence of the French President at the BRICS meeting would be irrelevant.
Moreover, the US economy, other Western countries, and international influence have suffered setbacks due to the Ukraine conflict. At the same time, the importance of BRICS, the influential group of five countries, Russia, India, China, Brazil and South Africa, has increased immensely. Thus, news is emerging that about 19 countries in the Middle East, Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia, which have been under Western domination for the past several years, are preparing to be a part of ‘BRICS’.
However, claims were being made to include US-friendly countries in the Middle East, like Saudi Arabia. Moreover, Egypt had sent an application for BRICS membership before Saudi; Russia revealed this publicly. India’s neighbour Bangladesh has also applied for BRICS membership. Thus, the news of the expansion of BRICS has been continuously surfacing.
A few hours ago, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the expansion of BRICS. Besides, it said that the issue of membership of Egypt and Bangladesh would be decided in the BRICS meeting to be held in South Africa in August. The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that the applications received from other countries will also be discussed in this meeting.
Meanwhile, French President Macron expressed his desire to attend the BRICS meeting held in South Africa as a guest country. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry turned down Macron’s demand. The Ministry said that the presence of the head of the NATO member country France would be inappropriate given the current international activities in BRICS and the demand to boycott Russia globally.
