Number of Coronavirus cases crosses 16,000

New Delhi: The number of deaths in the country reached 519, with an addition of 31 deaths in the last 24 hours and the number of cases crossed 16,000, increasing by 1,334. But the nation has still not entered the phase of Community transmission. Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that therefore the fears being expressed are baseless. He claimed that if some people had not been irresponsible, India would have reached very near to a victory over the Coronavirus pandemic.

The number of cases increased by 1,334 in the 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday. The total number of cases in the country reached 16,116. The health ministry informed that so far, 2,301 patients have been discharged from the hospitals after being cured. As per the information published by the Union health ministry, the number of cases in Maharashtra is 4,227, 2,008 in Delhi, 1,756 in Gujarat, 1,752 in Tamil Nadu and 1,545 in Rajasthan. All the seven cases reported from Goa have recovered fully and it is claimed that Goa is the first state in the country to be free from Coronavirus.

755 special medical facilities have been created in the country, for treatment of the Coronavirus patients. The health ministry said that there also are 1,389 health care centres, currently operational in the country. The speed of testing has been increased in the country. 37,173 tests were conducted on Saturday, alone. Of these, 27,287 tests were conducted in government laboratories. The Indian Council of Medical Research informed that a total of 386,791 tests have been performed in the country, till date.

Meanwhile, the Union government has instructed the state governments to provide adequate security to the Healthcare units, given the reports of attacks on health workers. The states have also been instructed to include local leaders and members of the peace committees, in these units and clear the misconceptions in the minds of the people, regarding the tests.

Factories, manufacturing units and other important functions will start to operate in the Coronavirus free areas of the country, per the regulations announced by the union home ministry, earlier. But the home ministry has warned the states to give these permissions only after a proper and complete assessment of the situation. The union home ministry also clarified that although the E-commerce businesses have been allowed to operate, they will limit their services only to essential goods and the deliveries thereof.
