10 more killed in crackdown by Myanmar military

Naypyidaw: – The military regime in Myanmar is continuing with its violent actions despite being castigated by the UN Security Council. On Wednesday, 15 members of the UN Security Council unanimously passes a statement showering criticism on the military regime in Myanmar. Within 24 hours of this, the military regime in Myanmar killed 10 protestors in a fresh action.

Last month, the military acquired power in Myanmar, overthrowing the elected government. Infuriated by the action of the military, the population of Myanmar took to the streets to protest. The extent of the protests being held in the capital Naypyidaw, Yangon, and other major cities has increased greatly. The non-cooperation agitation by government employees is also gaining increasing support. Troubled by the increasing opposition from around the country, the military regime has initiated action against the protestors, deploying tanks and soldiers to crush the agitation. Thousands of soldiers and security agency personnel have been deployed in most cities, including the capital and orders to open fire against the protestors have also been issued.   

On Thursday, the military unit in the Myaing city started an action to arrest the protestors. The protestors opposed the military action. The military opened fire on the protestors to dismantle the opposition. As per sources, six people were killed in the firing. Skirmishes between the protestors and the military have been reported even from Yangon. Mandalay, Bago and Taungoo cities and a minimum of 4 people have died. After the Thursday action, the total number of casualties in the protests has reached 60. Before that, there was an extensive discussion on the Myanmar military’s actions in the UN Security Council. At this time, the United Kingdom took the initiative to present a proposal against the Myanmar military’s coup and its actions. After the discussions, the UN Security Council released a ‘Presidential Statement’. This statement condemns the violent actions of the Myanmar military. It has been revealed that even China was among the countries that supported the statement.  

Meanwhile, the United States has imposed sanctions against both the children of General Ming Aung Hlaing, the military government’s head. The US treasury department informed that the sanctions include six companies belonging to the children of the General, along with them.
