Afghanistan, Afghan Conflict, United NationsPreviously, the United Nations had expressed concerns over the dangerously rising number of civilian casualties in the Afghan conflict. On Friday, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti reiterated concerns voiced in the UN report during an urgent United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting. Moreover, he appealed to the international community to take concrete steps to end the conflict in Afghanistan.

Three lakh Afghan civilians have been displaced in the last few weeks, informed the UN’s International Organisation for Migration (IOM). In addition, about 40,000 flee to Iran every week fearing the Taliban. However, the IOM also expressed concern about neighbouring Iran and Pakistan growing wary of the Afghan refugees. Thus, the UN report urged all countries to remain ready to face the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
