PM Modi’s Europe visit highlights Indian influence

New Delhi: A possibility of the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to the European countries Germany, France and Denmark proving to be stormy, given the Ukraine conflict was being predicted. India had jolted the western countries by refusing to denounce the Russian attack on Ukraine and buying fuel from Russia. The concern that this would have its repercussions during the Europe visit did not materialise. Instead, it was underlined that the European countries attach more importance to their relations with India. The Heads of State of Germany and Denmark took a stand against Russia. At the same time, the Danish Prime Minister had said that Russia poses a threat to democratic countries. But Prime Minister Modi pointed out clearly that the Ukraine problem cannot be resolved through any means other than negotiations. Prime Minister Modi clarified that India is neither on the Russian nor Ukraine’s side; India is with peace. Therefore, the entire world has experienced that the Indian foreign policy is balanced and sovereign.

The Indian economy is performing well, overcoming the challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic and the Ukraine conflict. The message has been delivered to the world that the Indian policies are consistent in the scenario and there are no sudden changes in the guidelines. Germany and Denmark announced that despite having differences with Russia, the priority would be to make the cooperation with India more comprehensive. Some analysts believe that this clearly shows that Indian importance is growing internationally.

The European countries and India are fully aware that even while the Ukraine conflict is going on, the European countries cannot ignore the Chinese threats and there is no option other than cooperating with India in front of the European countries. Internationally renowned analysts have claimed that India is firm on its stand. As per these analysts, India will hugely benefit at the political and trade levels in the coming times.

India did not withdraw from the cooperation with its traditional ally Russia, despite being pressured by a superpower like the United States. Even the Chinese media scoffing at India all the time also had to sit up and take cognisance of this. The Chinese mouthpiece claimed that the Indian foreign policy is admirable. At the same time, India firmly refused the Chinese proposal to establish cooperation setting aside the Ladakh border dispute. This was a shock for China, along with the United States.

The importance attached by the European countries to the cooperation with India will create an impact in the coming times. The European countries have realised this. Prime Minister Modi warned during the Europe visit that if the opportunity to invest in India is lost, there is a lot to lose. This statement getting a response from the European industry sector becomes a significant development.
