Iran, trying to weaken Israel will definitely fail – new Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant

Tel Aviv: Be it Iran’s struggle to acquire nuclear weapons or the rockets fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel, there is one goal behind them all. That is to weaken Israel by doing anything. But Iran and the organisations working for Iran can never achieve this goal. They will fail, Israel’s new Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has warned. Israeli newspapers claimed that these statements by Yoav Gallant while taking over the Ministry of Defence from the previous Minister of Defence, Benny Gantz, are noteworthy.

Iran, trying to weaken Israel will definitely fail – new Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav GallantMoreover, Benny Gantz had expressed the hope that the work of the IDF i.e. ‘Israel Defence Forces’, should always be within the ambit of politics. Accordingly, Gallant has clearly signalled that there will be continuity in IDF policy as he takes over as Defence Minister. With former Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s government gone and Benjamin Netanyahu’s coming to power, the grandmother and the former minister are politically careful to keep a four-arm distance from each other. But Israeli newspapers claimed that the close coordination between Benny Gantz and Yoav Gallant, a former military officer, signalled no significant change in IDF policies and operations.

On assuming the post of Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant asserted that Iran’s nuclear program and rocket attacks on Israel by pro-Iranian organisations share a common thread. Gallant severely criticised Iran, saying that the goal behind all these is to weaken Israel in any case. Gallant also pointed out that while Iran is struggling to acquire nuclear weapons, it is also constantly announcing the annihilation of Israel. Defence Minister Gallant explained that the terrorist organisations in the Gaza Strip, which are attacking Israel in coordination with Iran, will be attacked.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that if Iran gets nuclear weapons, Israel’s existence will be threatened and Israel will not allow that to happen under any circumstances. In the recent elections in Israel, Netanyahu won the majority by forming a coalition with far-right and radical political parties. Therefore, these extremist leaders have now become part of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s cabinet and they will take the initiative for aggressive action against Iran and the Palestinian organisations attacking Israel. The same indication is coming from the statement of Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.

On the other hand, if Israel attacks its nuclear plants, Iran threatens to destroy Israel’s Dimona nuclear plant by raining thousands of rockets and missiles on Israel. Due to this, the tension in the Persian Gulf has once again increased tremendously and the ongoing protests in Iran seem to have increased the aggression of this country’s regime. Yoav Galant’s statements seem to add new tension to the region in such a situation.
