Intense protests against Oli government in Nepal

Kathmandu: Accusing that the Nepal government is corrupt and it has failed in the battle against the Coronavirus, the Nepalese people held strong protests in capital Kathmandu on Saturday. ‘Establish monarchy in Nepal again, declare Nepal as a Hindu state’, were the demands made by the protestors. Till 2008, Nepal was a kingdom with a tradition of 240 years. But in 2008, following a major upheaval in the Nepalese royal family, democracy was established ending the king’s rule. Since the last 12 years, there is an elected government in Nepal. Currently, KP Sharma Oli’s Communist Party of Nepal (UFL) is sharing power with Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda’s Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre). Intense protests against Oli government in NepalAccusations are being made that the Oli government is corrupt. There are internal disputes in the Oli government. Accusing that the Oli government failed in the fight against Coronavirus, strong protests were held in the capital, Kathmandu. The demonstrations by people coming from various parts of Nepal are claimed to be a major success. The protestors demanded that the Oli government should be dismissed, Nepal should be re-established as a kingdom and declare Nepal as a Hindu country.

The protests, on Saturday, were organised by the National Civic Movement Committee 2020. Even before this, protests had been held on four occasions, in different parts of Nepal, in support of the monarchy and many organisations had come together for the protests. But the intensity of these protests was very low. But as per Nepalese media, the intensity of the Saturday protests was very high.
