Indo-US joint statement terms Pakistan a promoter of terrorism – Imran Khan criticises

Islamabad/Washington – Former Prime Minister Imran Khan said Pakistan’s former army chief and current government leaders had visited the US since last year. Further, he expressed regret that despite this, the Indo-US joint statement has reduced Pakistan’s existence to a country promoting terrorism. Prominent media and analysts of Pakistan have also raised this issue included in the joint statement of India and the US.

Moreover, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and the US President, Joe Biden, prominently highlighted the issue of terrorism in the joint statement. Besides, the joint statement demanded that Pakistan take action against the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai and 2016 Pathankot terror attacks. Even in a speech made in the US Congress, Prime Minister Modi said there are ‘no ifs or buts’ in dealing with terrorism of any kind, and there is a need for strict action against the governments supporting terrorism.

Furthermore, the joint statement said that the US and India would fight together against global terrorism. It further noted that both countries condemn terrorism and violent extremist ideologies. Recently, China had stalled the proceedings against Sajid Mir, one of the masterminds of the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai. India had reacted sharply to this and had questioned China’s will to act against terrorists. Additionally, India’s representative had said without directly referring to China that it took this decision for its petty interests. Against this background, the issue mentioned in the joint request of Prime Minister Modi and President Biden seems to have caused a big stir in Pakistan. Moreover, China has also been expected to file a response.
