Indians are far away from achieving herd immunity, warns Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan

New Delhi: Indian citizens are far from achieving herd immunity. Hence, no compromise can be risked, and essential measures must be followed strictly, said Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan. Moreover, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is conducting a study to find out about how come former Covid patients are suffering from a relapse. However, he clarified that the number of such patients is less as of now. Moreover, the Union Health Minister imparted this information, citing the second serosurvey conducted by ICMR.

Harsh-VardhanThe rate of recovered Covid patients in the country is up to 82.4%. Besides, over 50 lakh patients have recovered so far. However, at the same time, the number of dead and newly infected with the Covid virus is rising rapidly. By Sunday night, the number of dead patients in the country had gone up to 95,000. Moreover, the total number of patients was about 60,50,000.    

Over the next four to five days, it is being predicted that the number of Covid patients in the country will shoot up. India has recorded the most number of deaths after Mexico and the United States. The rate of Covid deaths in the country is 2%. However, the death rate in a few states in the country is more than the national average. Maharashtra records 2.77% death rate. Furthermore, on Sunday, 380 people died due to Covid in Maharashtra, and 18,056 new patients were recorded. Hence, the total death toll in the state is over 35,579.    

On Sunday, Tamil Nadu recorded 82 deaths and 5,679 new patients. 47 died in Andhra Pradesh, and 7,000 new patients were registered. In just 24 hours, Karnataka recorded 86 deaths and 8,811 new patients. 84 died in Uttar Pradesh due to Covid in only one day, and 4,519 new patients were recorded.
