Major disaster averted because of ITBP’s ‘Sofia’

Rajnandgaon: – A major disaster was be averted as the sniffer dog ‘Sofia’, with the bomb squad of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), sniffed out an IED planted by the Maoists, in Chhattisgarh. Additional ITBP soldiers have been deployed in Chhattisgarh to strengthen the counter Maoists campaign.

Maoists had planted an IED near the road being built between Bega Salewara and Samudpani to target the ITBP patrol. This IED planted near the Pandhripani village in Rajnandgaon district was 7 Kilograms. The sniffer dog pointed out the presence of the IED, while the ITBP soldiers were patrolling the area.   

sniffer-dog Thereafter, the soldiers of the 40 battalions of the ITBP, immediately defused the IED. ITBP said that the lives of the soldiers and the workers on the road project were saved by the sniffer dog ‘Sofia’. If the sniffer dog had not located the IED, the Maoists would have exploded it the next day. In that case, there could have been a good number of casualties.   

The counter Maoists action has been intensified in Chhattisgarh. The Maoists are panicking given this action. Therefore, the Maoists are targeting the soldiers. At the same time, attempts are being made to create obstacles in development works. The effort is to increase discontent among the locals, against the government, by obstructing the development works. But the security forces are foiling all the attempts of the Maoists.
