India took a tough stance at SCO meet due to the ongoing troublemaking activities of China – Indian media & experts claim

tough stanceNew Delhi – India taking a tough stance and raising the issues of tensions on the LAC during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is being criticised by the Chinese media. The official mouthpiece of the Chinese government, the Global Times, mentioned that India’s defence minister spoke harshly in the bilateral discussion with his Chinese counterpart, Li Shangfu. However, it’s evident that India’s stand is a reaction to Chinese activities. China is preparing to hold direct talks with Bhutan, excluding India. At the same time, China plans to intensify its operation against India as India just concluded a military exercise with the US Army near the border with China. Realising this, India has adopted an aggressive policy against China during the SCO meeting.

A statement was issued after Rajnath Singh’s discussion with the Chinese Defence minister in which India warned China that unless the tension between the two countries is not resolved peace and harmony cannot be established on the LAC. Chinese analysts criticised the language as being very harsh and aggressive. After this, India’s foreign minister, who is on a tour of Latin American countries, also said that the relations between India and China are tense. The statements issued by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, followed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, are to increase diplomatic pressure on China.

There is a background for India to adopt such a tough stance. The war exercise between India and US Army was recently completed. The Indian Army is said to be the best in hill and remote area warfare. After the conflict of Galwan, even the Chinese military analysts themselves accepted this point. China’s Defence Minister Li Shangfu said that the US Army is studying and experiencing war techniques in mountainous and remote areas with India, which is very dangerous for China. There are claims from China that they will take decisive steps against this.

Responding to China’s objection to its military exercises with the US, India clarified that the military exercises were within the framework and its rights. Earlier, China had conducted many exercises with anti-India countries like Pakistan that challenged India’s security. Considering that, China has no right to object to India’s exercise with the US Army. However, disturbed by this, China tried to hold direct talks with Bhutan after this exercise by moving along India’s border with Bhutan. China also provoked India by changing the names of places in Arunachal Pradesh. During the SCO meeting, it seemed that there was a reaction from India. This has made China aware that if China continues such activities, India’s stance may become tougher.
