India slams China for blocking action on 26/11 mastermind ‘Sajid Mir’

United Nations: India has slammed China for blocking the proposal to declare Pakistani terrorist Sajid Mir as a global terrorist using Veto. India’s UN Joint Secretary Prakash Gupta said that if it is not possible to designate a terrorist like Sajid Mir as a global terrorist for petty geopolitical interests, the will to act against terrorists can be questioned. At that time, India also played the audio clip of Sajid Mir in the United Nations. In this, Mir was heard instructing the terrorists who attacked Mumbai.

'Sajid Mir'On Tuesday, India and the United States proposed to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to declare Sajid Mir, a global terrorist. China has blocked this proposal by using Veto. Even in November last year, India and the US had presented a resolution against Sajid Mir, who was part of the conspiracy of the 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai. At that time, China had obstructed it by citing technical reasons. China has similarly prevented Pakistani terrorists from getting designated as ‘global terrorists’ previously as well. The same thing appears to be repeated with Sajid Mir’s proposal, even this time.

Moreover, India has registered a sharp reaction to China blocking this proposal. India played an audio clip of Sajid Mir at the UNSC. In this, Mir was heard instructing the terrorists attacking Mumbai. Mir asked terrorists to find and shoot foreign nationals at Taj Hotel in Mumbai. After listening to this audio clip, India’s Joint Secretary in the United Nations, Prakash Gupta, reprimanded the stalling of the resolution related to Sajid Mir, citing that such a terrorist cannot be supported in any way.

Besides, Gupta highlighted that the terrorists who perpetrated the Mumbai attacks have still not been brought to justice. He also said the masterminds of the Mumbai attacks are still roaming freely and getting all the facilities. The double standards and justification of good terrorists vs bad terrorists must be primarily avoided, Gupta added.

In addition, India’s UN Joint Secretary Prakash Gupta noted that despite all the evidence, such proposals are stopped without reason. He said that if it is not possible to declare Mir as a ‘global terrorist’ despite so many countries presenting a proposal together, there is a flaw in the counter-terrorist architecture. Gupta also raised the issue of the old and flawed design of the UN. He targeted China saying that such proposals are blocked for petty geopolitical interests.

Meanwhile, in June last year, Sajid Mir was arrested by Pakistani agencies and sentenced to 15-year jail terms. However, allegations have been levelled that Mir has been kept in the safe house by making this punishment a means. Sajid Mir was missing for ten years before he was arrested last year. Pakistan was claiming the death of Mir, who had been missing since 2012. However, the Indian agencies had stated that he was alive.

Furthermore, Pakistan was forced to accept that Sajid Mir was alive after being pressured by the US and also to get out of the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Later, he was presented before the court and even sentenced. However, India had accused Pakistan, saying the whole thing was a sham.
