India criticises China for defending terrorists in UNSC

United Nations: India and the United States have jointly proposed to impose UN Security Council sanctions on Abdul Rehman Makki, one of the masterminds behind the 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai. However, China blocked this proposal which came before the UN Security Council in June. India’s ambassador to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, castigated China and Pakistan citing this. Ruchira Kamboj harshly criticised that such a dual policy on terrorism is jeopardising the credibility of the UN Security Council.

Pakistan used the notorious smuggler Dawood Ibrahim to carry out saboteur activities in India. After that, Kamboj pointed out that Pakistan has been protecting Dawood Ibrahim in the country, mentioning this syndicate. Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj spoke during the UN Security Council discussion on ‘Threats to International Peace and Security Caused by Terrorist Acts’. With China presiding over these discussions, the importance of Kamboj’s criticism of Pakistan and China increases further.

Unfortunately, even the proposal of action based on solid evidence against dangerous terrorists is blocked. Kamboj criticised that the credibility of the UN Security Council has been compromised due to the dual policy and politics in the matter of terrorism. Ruchira Kamboj expressed the hope that all the countries will unite against terrorism in the coming times and take unanimous decisions to take action against the terrorists. Kamboj also demanded that the action against terrorists should become more transparent, accountable, unbiased, and objective.

Earlier, China had protected the Pakistani terrorists, which were carrying out terrorist attacks in India, from the actions of the UN Security Council. In 2017, China blocked the Security Council’s proposal to take action against the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed, Maulana Masood Azhar. China had forwarded a technical reason for it.

China seems to have once again exposed its hatred for India by blocking the proposed action against Abdul Rehman Makki, one of the masterminds of the Mumbai terror attacks. The criticism made by the Indian ambassadors comes as a warning to China. For the past few months, India has adopted an aggressive strategy to retaliate against the Chinese activities against India. India is constantly pointing out that China will subsequently have to bear the consequences of refusing to cooperate with India. Ruchira Kamboj’s criticism of the Security Council seems a part of the same Indian stand.
