Hungarian Prime Minister's new warning to European countries

Budapest: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán warned that the European countries that provide finance and weapons to Ukraine for the battle with Russia have become ‘part of the war’. Also, while talking to journalists, Orbán mentioned Ukraine as a ‘no man’s land’ and compared Ukraine with Afghanistan. Ukraine has reacted to this and, in this case, has summoned Hungary’s ambassador. However, the repercussions of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s warning have now started to appear in European countries. It was revealed in a survey conducted in Germany that the majority of people were against providing military assistance to Ukraine.

Moreover, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock claimed that European countries were at a ‘war with Russia’. Signalling that Germany was also at the forefront of Ukraine’s conflict with Russia, Baerbock claimed that Germany was at ‘war with Russia’ in the PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) of the European Parliament. Her remarks have been severely criticised in Germany.
Besides, Germany’s opposition leaders have questioned whether Baerbock was fit for the post of Foreign Minister.

In such a situation, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s warning to the European countries about the conflict in Ukraine has come into discussion while talking to the media. ‘The West may think it is not at war with Russia, but by sending more and more weapons to Ukraine, it is getting closer to a real military intervention,’ the Hungarian Prime Minister reprimanded the European countries supporting Ukraine. Along with this, Orbán has warned the European countries that the time to withdraw from this battle has passed.

In this case, Ukraine has issued a summons to the ambassador of Hungary and asked for an explanation. Additionally, Russian media has picked up Orban’s words. Since the Ukraine conflict started, the Hungarian Prime Minister advised European countries to stay away from this battle. Viktor Orbán had warned that if the European countries did not do this, they would suffer negative consequences, and the United States expects the same. As long as he would be Hungary’s Prime Minister, Orbán warned that Hungary would not assist Ukraine in this conflict. Furthermore, European countries severely criticised his stance.
