Lucknow: The government is making efforts to bring the economy, derailed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, back on track and European countries along with Israel have responded positively to the efforts. Israel will be investing in the water management project at Bundelkhand, in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Germany will be investing in the defence sector at Aligarh. France also has expressed interest in investing in India and the discussions have started regarding this.

European countries and Israel increasingly invest in IndiaOn Wednesday, India and Israel signed an important agreement in the water management sector. Under this agreement, advanced systems will be installed in the drought-prone areas in Bundelkhand for water conservation and water supply for agriculture. Ron Malka, Israeli Ambassador to India and Alok Sinha, Agriculture Commissioner for UP, signed the agreement. In 2017, agreements for cooperation in the water management sector were signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel. This agreement is the continuation of those agreements.

A few days ago, UP government announced the Defence Corridor. This project will be implemented on 5,000 hectares of land in the Bundelkhand, Aligarh, Kanpur, Jhansi and Chitrakoot districts of UP. Germany has expressed interest in investing in the Defence Corridor. The chief of Electronics Division and Air Defence enterprises of the Rheinmetall company, recently held discussions with the UP government, regarding the investments. SME and Investment Minister Siddharth Sing Nath informed that these discussions were very positive. The German company has prepared to cooperate with BHEL and has indicated that the investment could be to the tune of $1 billion.

During the discussions, France expressed willingness to set up a task force, for exploring possibilities for investment in defence, airlines, cloth, foot ware and skill development sectors. SME and Investment Minister Siddharth Sing Nath said that the French companies looking for an alternative to China, are keen to come to India and Ambassador Ashraf indicated that preference would be given to UP.
