Third World WarWashington/Moscow: US President Donald Trump signed the proposal for imposing sanctions against the ambitious Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline between Russia and Germany. European company ‘Allseas’ withdrew from the project, within hours of the signing of the order. This withdrawal has rocked the project and Russia, as well as Germany, have fired strong salvos of criticism at the US sanctions.

The proposal has a provision for action against the companies connected with the project, after the expiry of the given timeline. The timeline became applicable as soon as President Trump signed the bill.

Within hours of the signature, Swiss company ‘Allseas’ announced the suspension of all the works linked to the Nord Stream 2 project. The company clarified on its website that the concerned decision was taken to avoid getting cornered by the US law. Following the withdrawal of the Swiss company, Germany and Russia showered criticism on the US sanctions.

The US principle to go forward only through debt is not sustainable in the world. The United States may demand that Russia and other countries stop breathing and many countries will fulfil the US demand.’

Whereas Germany refused to accept the sanctions saying that this is interference in the internal German matters and this can affect German as well as other European companies. Only last week, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas had appealed that the United States should not interfere in the fuel policies of the European countries.
