Jaishankar. President Sisi will discuss the economic partnership between the two countries, counter-terrorism operations, defence and security, industrial and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and food security cooperation with Indian leaders. Besides, about six agreements are expected between the two countries regarding cooperation in this field.

The friendly cooperation between India and Egypt has been historical. The two countries have been linked to each other by cultural, civilisational and economic perspectives that have linked the two countries for a long time. Saying that the people of both countries have a strong relationship with each other, the Ministry of External Affairs of India highlighted the importance of this visit of President Sisi to India. At the same time, this also brings to light India and Egypt’s increasing bilateral trade graph. Besides, bilateral trade between India and Egypt reached $7.26 billion in the fiscal year 2021-22. In addition, the information surfaced that about 50 Indian companies have invested about 3.15 billion dollars in Egypt. Indian companies are said to have invested in Egypt’s chemical, energy, textile and agriculture sectors and the retail industry.

Moreover, India has been visualising Egypt as its strategic partner country. India had stopped exporting wheat to other countries after the conflict in Ukraine led to a global wheat shortage. But Egypt’s analysts have reminded that Egypt was an exception to this ban. Moreover, the Indian media has drawn attention to the fact that Egypt adopted a favourable position for India on the issue of Kashmir in the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation), an organisation of Islamic countries.

Besides, the strategic partnership between India and Egypt can be very important in the future. As India’s economic, political, and security influence over the Gulf countries grows, India looks to Egypt as a reliable country to safeguard its interests. The President of Egypt has received the distinction of becoming the first Gulf leader to be the Chief Guest of India’s Republic Day. At the same time, the media has also given evidence that the bilateral relations between India and Egypt are completing 75 years this year.

Moreover, Egypt has been considering buying Indian-made Tejas fighter jets for its air force. Besides, it has been reported that India has been competing with China for the Metro Rail project in the ancient city of Alexandria, Egypt. This project is worth about 1.7 billion dollars. If this project would award to India, a new door will open for infrastructural development projects in the Gulf for Indian companies. Therefore, it has come to the fore that the visit of the President of Egypt to India is of great strategic importance.
