Baghdad – US interests in Iraq became the targets of terrorists in Iraq in the last 24 hours. There were three drone attacks near the US Embassy in the Irbil city of Iraq. An Iranian news agency informed that US military units were targeted in four parts of Iraq on Saturday night and Sunday early morning. It is suspected that these attacks were carried out by the Iran affiliated terrorist organisation, threatening the United States to be prepared for dire consequences unless the entire US military is withdrawn from Iraq, on the lines of Afghanistan. There are 2,500 US Soldiers deployed in Iraq. In the last six months, there have been 43 attacks on the US interests in Iraq.
Three drone attacks were carried out, late on Saturday, near the US Embassy building in Irbil city, the capital of autonomous Kurdistan province of Iraq. Two of these drones landed on a nearby house. In contrast, the third drone did not explode. The United States clarified that the attacks caused no losses. The US Embassy has strongly criticised the attacks. Besides, the US also said that these attacks violate Iraq’s sovereignty.
Within 24 hours of these attacks, the attacks on the US military units took place between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The US military vehicles on patrolling duty in the Hilah, Al Diwaniyah, Saladin regions, and Baghdad were targeted. The Iranian news agency reported that these attacks caused no losses. No organisation has accepted the responsibility for these attacks carried out in the last 24 hours. It is suspected that Iran affiliated Hashd al-Shaabi, meaning Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), is behind the attacks.
PMF had a show of strength through a parade in the capital Baghdad. At this time, the Iran affiliated PMF gave slogans for total US military withdrawal from Iraq. PMF is one of the armed organisations formed by Iran to fight against the terrorist organisation ‘IS’ in Iraq and Syria. The United declared PMF a terrorist organisation accusing its presence in Iraq and Syria is a threat to the United States and Israel.
Meanwhile, since the beginning of the year, there have been 43 attacks on the US interests in Iraq. These include the attacks on military bases at Al Assad in Baghdad. Whereas, in April, drone attacks had been carried out on the military base in Irbil. The attacks on the US interests have increased after the assassination of KUDS Forces Chief General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, by the United States, in a drone attack.
Two days ago, three drone attacks were launched on the US military bases in Iraq. Two US contractors were injured in the attacks. The United States had refused to react to the attacks. But the United States announced prize money of $3 million for anyone giving information regarding the attacks.
