Must destroy Safe Havens of terrorists, criminals and corrupt people - PM Modi appeals in Interpol General AssemblyThe 90th General Assembly of Interpol started in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it. To commemorate this, the Prime Minister unveiled a postal stamp and a ₹100 coin. On this occasion, the Prime Minister pointed out that India had to pay a huge price for this terrible problem like terrorism long before the world realised it. Global security is a collective responsibility of the international community. Hence, the corrupt, terrorists, gangs involved in the drug trade, poachers and organised criminals should not be given safe havens anywhere in the world. Prime Minister Modi hoped that a crime committed in one place should be considered a crime committed against everyone, against the entire humanity.

Action should be taken against these criminals keeping in mind that this will affect not only the present world but also the future generation. For this, it is essential to make the police forces more capable. At this time, the Prime Minister demanded that organisations like Interpol, which works internationally, should take immediate steps to issue ‘red corner’ notices against criminals who commit crimes in one country and flee to another. Besides, terrorism is not only limited to killing people; terrorists also use digital media for radicalisation and cybercrime. The prime minister pointed to the danger that cyberterrorism can bring the entire system to its knees by launching an attack with a single click.

Every country is preparing its policies against this. But we cannot fight against this by staying within our borders. The Prime Minister further said that a strategy must be devised at the international level. Corrupt people take their ill-gotten money to other countries. This money belongs to the people of the abused country. Such money can also be misused for terrorist activities. Also, the lives of many youths are being ruined due to the drug trade. Prime Minister Modi pointed to the dangers of the money earned in this way being used for activities from human trafficking to weakening the democratic systems and the illicit trade in arms.

Thus, the international community must move swiftly to destroy the safe havens of such criminals. India has proved it can take the initiative to face any problem during the Coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, while societies worldwide are becoming self-centred, India is taking the lead on this front by calling for international cooperation. ‘Global cooperation for local welfare’ is the Indian appeal. The Prime Minister of India has given a crucial message in this General Assembly of Interpol that if the good forces of the world unite, criminal forces cannot operate.
