Despite the deal on Maritime Border, there is no possibility of Israel-Lebanon cooperation – outgoing Lebanon President

Beirut: On Thursday, Israel and Lebanon reached an agreement to settle the dispute over ownership of the oil-rich Mediterranean region. The United States and both countries expressed satisfaction with the agreement. The head of Hezbollah, a hard-line anti-Israel organization, also claimed the deal as a victory for the Lebanese people. The United Nations officials who mediated this agreement compared it to the Abraham Accord between Israel and the Arab countries. But Lebanese President Michel Aoun has disposed of this possibility, saying there is no question of a peace treaty with Israel.

Despite the deal on marine limits, there is no possibility of Israel-Lebanon cooperation – outgoing Lebanon PresidentMoreover, the Arab Gulf countries have signed the Abraham Accord with Israel, recognizing the country and taking steps to establish political and economic cooperation. Israel has started getting huge benefits from this. In such a situation, the agreement concluded two days ago to resolve the ongoing dispute with Lebanon regarding the maritime area in the Mediterranean Sea was claimed to be a new Abraham Accord. Some analysts say the conclusion of this agreement is a major success for the Israeli government. Some news reports claimed that soon even an anti-Israeli country like Lebanon could overcome its anti-Israelism and begin to cooperate. But outgoing Lebanese President Aoun has denied the claim.

President Aoun’s term is coming to an end. However, Aoun has expressed concern that his successor has not yet been announced and that the ongoing controversy will lead to political instability in Lebanon. In such a situation, Aoun informed that his government avoided war by signing an agreement with Israel regarding the border in the Mediterranean region. President Aoun added that the agreement would commit to Lebanon. But this does not mean that Lebanon has signed a peace treaty with Israel. Saying that there is no question of establishing peace with Israel, Aoun indicated that there is no such possibility, at least in the present scenario.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah, the radical organization dominating Lebanon, supported the deal with Israel. After this agreement, Hezbollah chief Nasrallah shocked everyone by withdrawing the alert issued against Israel. Nasrallah said that this agreement is in the interest of the Lebanese people and this agreement is a victory for the Lebanese people. Therefore, there is no threat to Israel’s agreement with Lebanon in the present situation. But the warning issued by President Aoun about the political instability in Lebanon can be a matter of increasing concern for Israel.
