New Delhi: The number of Coronavirus deaths in the country has crossed 5,000, and the total number of cases has reached 180,000. The pandemic claimed 264 lives between Friday and Saturday mornings and 7,994 new cases were reported. Since the last few days, more than 6,000 cases were being reported every day. But the concerns have increased as the number of new cases reported in a day is nearing 8,000.
In the last 11 days, 73,435 new cases have been reported from the country. On 19th May, the number of Coronavirus cases in the country was 100,328. Whereas the number has reached 173,763 on Saturday morning and the total number of deaths has reached 4,971. The highest number of new cases and deaths was reported on Saturday. In view of the information submitted by the states on Saturday night, the number of deaths has crossed 5,000, and the number of cases has reached near 180,000.
On Saturday, 99 Coronavirus deaths and 2,940 new cases were reported from Maharashtra. This has taken the total number of Coronavirus cases to 65,000. 54 deaths and 1,510 new cases were reported from Mumbai in 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in Mumbai over 38,500. 114 policemen were reportedly infected with Coronavirus on Friday. This has taken the total number of policemen infected with Coronavirus to 2,325. 26 policemen have succumbed to the disease, so far, in the state.
Meanwhile, 1,163 new Coronavirus cases were reported from Delhi in the last 24 hours. Delhi becomes the second city, after Mumbai, to report more than 1,000 cases in one day. More than 1,000 cases were reported from Delhi for the second successive day. This has taken the total number of cases in Delhi to 18,500. Delhi has reported 400 deaths till date. The number of cases in Tamil Nadu has crossed 21,000, and 938 new cases were reported from the state. 412 new cases were reported from Gujarat, and out of these, 253 new cases were reported only from Ahmedabad. With this, the total number of Coronavirus cases in Gujarat has crossed 16,000.
