Number of cases in India cross 3,600, 661 cases in Maharashtra

New Delhi: The Number of Coronavirus cases in India has crossed 3,600. More than 300 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours and a whopping 145 cases have been reported from Maharashtra on Saturday and there was an addition of 26 cases on Sunday. This has taken the total number of cases in the state to 661. Maximum cases out of these are from Mumbai. Four patients died in Mumbai in the last 24 hours and 52 new cases were detected. This takes the number of Coronavirus deaths in Mumbai alone, to 22.

The health ministry is still maintaining that still there has been no evidence of Community transmission in India. Allegations are rife that the rapid increase in the Coronavirus cases are because of the people participating in the irresponsibly organised Tablighi Jamaat function, in New Delhi. A health department official also had endorsed this view. Nearly 80% of the patients of Coronavirus in the country are below the age of 50. Out of these, 42% are from the age group of 20 to 40 and 9% are below the age of 20.

The countries where the Coronavirus is rampaging, it had been observed that the threat is much higher in the people above the age of 60. But the situation is different in India.

Most number of cases have been reported from the state of Maharashtra. On Saturday there was an addition of 145 cases. No other state in the country has reported such a high number of cases, in a single day. The percentage of deaths, due to the virus, in Maharashtra also is above average. 8 people died in the state on Saturday. Four of these are from Mumbai, two from Jalgaon and one each from Amravati and Mumbra. This has taken the death toll in the state to 34. 22 deaths out of these are in Mumbai alone.

There was a jump of 30% in the number of Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra on Saturday, taking it to 635. Mumbai has the maximum number of cases. It is clear from this 60% Coronavirus cases detected in the state of Maharashtra, are in Mumbai. On Sunday, two Coronavirus cases were reported from Dharavi in Mumbai. The challenges faced by the administration and the agencies increase manifold when cases are being reported from densely populated areas like Dharavi. On Sunday morning, 26 new cases were added in the state, taking the total number to 661. 17 patients out of these are from Pune and four are from Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Meanwhile, 74 new cases were added in Tamil Nadu, till Saturday night. 73 of these were linked to the Tablighi Jamaat function. 1023 people who have attended the Tablighi Jamaat function, have tested positive for Coronavirus, till now. 8 Malaysian citizens who participated in the function and were preparing to escape from the country were arrested from the Delhi airport, on Sunday night.
