Beijing: Chinese Foreign Ministry has issued a warning to the Philippines saying that ‘China has the right to interrogate the planes and ships entering the South China Sea and the Philippines should not interfere in this matter,’ for the objections raised by the Philippines against the building of artificial islands in the South China Sea by China and for the advice to China to contain its aggression.

Within a few hours of the Chinese warning to the Philippines, the United States endorsed Philippines’ stance. The United States assured the Philippines that it will be a trusted ally in case of a Chinese attack in the South China Sea.

Since the last few weeks, tension has been created between China and Philippines over patrolling in the South China Sea. Since the last ten days, Philippines air force has started patrolling in the West Philippines airspace . But China who has claimed its right over the entire South China Sea has warned the Philippines’ planes of dire consequences. The international media had carried news reports about these Chinese threats. The Philippines had also alleged that China was threatening its neighbouring countries on a daily basis.

Following this, Philippines’ President, Rodrigo Duterte objected to this Chinese arrogance. Duterte had clarified that China should rethink about the aggression in the region. Agitated by this statement, China countered the accusations levelled by the Philippines President. The Chinese foreign ministry also warned that it will continue to threaten the planes and ships passing through this region. At the same time, China proposed that the Philippines can jointly patrol the South China Sea along with itself.

The Philippines has not reacted to the Chinese threat. But the US Deputy Secretary of State, Randall Shriver announced that the United States will back its old trusted ally, the Philippines. In the future, if the dispute over the South China Sea flares up and China attacks the Philippines, the United States will enter the conflict to protect the Philippines, said Shriver.
