China upset over Dalai Lama’s birthday; Chinese soldiers protest at the LAC

New Delhi – The Indian Prime Minister had wished Dalai Lama, supreme religious preacher and leader of Tibet, over the telephone on his birthday. Indian media highlighted the news and claimed that the Indian government has delivered a message to China by doing this. Chinese mouthpiece had commented that these cheap Indian tactics would not have any effect on China. But in reality, China is upset with the importance that the birthday of the Dalai Lama received in India and even outside India. Therefore, the Chinese soldiers at Demchok attempted an intrusion into the Indian territory, holding placards protesting the function to celebrate the birthday of the Dalai Lama.

LAC, China, Dalai Lama, IndiaMilitary sources informed that this incident took place on 6th July. Dalai Lama’s birthday was celebrated in the villages near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. The Chinese soldiers reached up to Demchok with posters and banners to oppose the celebrations. It is being informed that they attempted intrusion into the Indian territory. It is claimed that the Chinese soldiers who came near the Demchok border, in five vehicles, displayed banners and posters for half an hour and returned.

The Chinese soldiers did not indulge in any other special activities. But it has once again become clear that the importance given to the Birthday of Dalai Lama has not gone down well with China. Dalai Lama has always been the ambassador for the aspirations of the Tibetan people on the international level and has always raised his voice against the oppression of the Tibetan population by China. The importance received by Dalai Lama on the international level has always been hurting China. China has consistently accused that the respect received by Dalai Lama on the international level, the awards given to him are a part of the anti-China conspiracy.

The Indian Prime Minister called Dalai Lama over the phone to wish for his 86th birthday. US State Secretary Antony Blinken also held talks with Dalai Lama and wished him on his birthday. China is worried that India and the United States are now planning to target China using the Tibet card. The military analysts are demanding that while China poses a challenge to the Indian security with increased deployment on the LAC in Ladakh, India should raise the Tibet issue and increase pressure on China. These analysts claim that this is the golden opportunity for India to highlight the Tibet issue on the international level.

The Tibetan Government in Exile, based in Dharamshala, also is demanding the same thing from India. India does not share a common border with China. Besides, Tibet is a country between India and China. The Tibetan leaders in India demand that India refer to the LAC as the India-Tibet border and not the India-China border.
