Recently, Gallup, a leading survey and advisor company in the United States, published a survey report. Opinions of the seniors as well as young US citizens, were recorder between 3rd and 18th February. Out of these 45% of the people said that China is the United States’ biggest adversary. A year ago, a survey showed that 22% of people thought China is the biggest adversary of the United States. Therefore, the number of people believing that China is the biggest enemy of the United States has doubled in one year.

The concerned company said that the developments on the international level are responsible for this change. The major cause for this anger is the Coronavirus Pandemic that invaded the United States. The Coronavirus spread to the world from Wuhan, China. The concerned company said that this has created intense resentment regarding China in the US population’s minds. The US-China trade war going on for the last two years, atrocities against Uyghurs, attack on the democracy in Hongkong, and the tension between China and its neighbours are also believed to contribute to the resentment in the United States.

The Coronavirus pandemic has hit all the world’s major economies, and the US population noted in the survey that the Gross Democratic Product of China increased during this period. 63% of the US population expressed a concern that China is heading to be an economic superpower. The survey has recorded an opinion that as an economic superpower, China will pose a major threat to US interests.

The US population and even the United States’ political parties also accept that the Chinese economy is a threat to the country. The survey also exposed that 81% of republican and 56% of Democrat leaders believed that China is a threat to the United States. In contrast, 1% of the population has recorded an opinion that the United States is the biggest enemy of itself.

The trend exposed in the US population survey could prove to be problematic for the Biden administration, who intends to adopt pro-China policies. President Biden had said that Russia is the biggest threat to the United States and China is only a competitor. The Gallup Poll survey shows that the US population thinks differently.
