Five aircraft carriers from NATO member countries patrol European maritime region

Washington/Brussels: NATO has started to increase its military deployments in Europe, given the increasing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the missile attack in Poland. A few days ago, it was reported that NATO conducted a nuclear exercise in northern Europe. Following that, it has been exposed that five aircraft carriers from NATO member countries, along with their ‘Carrier Strike Groups’, have been deployed in the European marine region. The US navy has endorsed this claim.

These include US aircraft carriers USS George HW Bush and USS Gerald R Ford. ‘USS Gerald R Ford’ is known to be the latest aircraft carrier in the US navy.

Along with the two US aircraft carriers, French Charles De Gall, British HMS Elizabeth and Italian ITS Cavour are the other aircraft carriers patrolling the area. Sources claimed that the deployment of each aircraft carrier and its groups has been for a different objective. But deploying five aircraft carriers in the European marine region while the Russia-Ukraine conflict is being fought becomes significant.

NATO announced that the nuclear deployment in Europe would increase substantially due to the increasing Russian aggression. At the same time, rapid movements are being made to increase coordination between the member countries. Experts claimed that steps had been initiated on many fronts to enable the effective use of the ‘Collective Defence Strategy’ of NATO and the deployment of the five aircraft carriers and coordination between them becomes a part of the same effort.

Senior NATO official Vice Admiral Keith Blount said that NATO has already demonstrated its capability to coordinate between military units deployed from various member countries and the deployment of the five aircraft carriers also is a part of the same strategy.
