Afghans have started losing patience – UN Representative issues serious warningMoreover, apart from conflict and war, Afghanistan has suffered famine for two out of the last four years. Thus, the situation in Afghanistan has immensely deteriorated and its citizens have had to spend their last chunk of savings. This country’s poor people have to sell their organs and children to feed themselves. Nearly 2.5 crores of Afghans direly need humanitarian assistance. In 2016, this number was two crores, informed Ramiz Alakbarov.

In June 2022, an earthquake of 6.1 magnitudes occurred in Afghanistan. One thousand Afghans died in that disaster and about one and a half thousand were injured. Besides, 95 Afghans died in floods due to rains and thousands lost their homes. Hence, the Afghans had to suffer natural calamities alongside war. This has made the situation of Afghanistan even more problematic.

Additionally, the recently established Taliban regime cannot face such crises. This regime has not been approved internationally. Consequently, this has blocked external assistance for Afghans at large.

Simultaneously, Afghanistan has been ambushed with terrible disasters, and if it does not receive international assistance in future, people will die largely. The United Nations has continuously warned on such lines. However, the international community has still not developed faith in the Taliban regime. Moreover, the Taliban has also not changed its extremist policy. Apart from that, the Taliban has no unanimity on several issues and the internal differences have stood as a massive challenge before the regime.

At the same time, militant outfits such as ISIS are rising in Afghanistan. A UN report had also mentioned that the uprising of various militant organisations in Afghanistan could be witnessed soon. Against this background, the warning issued by Ramiz Alakbarov appears grave. Concerns are also being expressed that the neighbour nations of Afghanistan and those from the regions beyond may have to suffer severe repercussions.
