Under the ‘Comprehensive Integrated Border Management’ plan of the BSF, a total of 1823 posts on Pakistan and Bangladesh borders, will be equipped with drones, CCTV and Sensors. 1,500 posts will be capable of operating the drones and using Anti-Drone Systems. A senior official from the home ministry informed that nearly ₹880 million would be required for purchase of Mini and Micro Drones. It was also informed that the BSF is in the process of testing, the indigenously developed Anti-Drone System, on the Punjab border, currently considered to be a sensitive region.

In the Last year, Pakistan has used Chinese drones to transport rifles, pistols and grenades, for Khalistan terrorists in Punjab and terrorists in Jammu-Kashmir. A few days ago, BSF soldiers killed five terrorists, who were trying to infiltrate through the Punjab border. Weapons and narcotics were seized from these terrorists. Only last month a major terrorist attack was foiled when a Pakistani drone, carrying arms, was shot down on the international border in Kashmir. Seven grenades and other arms were being smuggled in this US-made M-4 drone.

Against the background of these incidents, the Intelligence department of the BSF had warned that Pakistan is making preparations to launch drone attacks, on the Indian military bases, in the Samba sector near the international border, in Jammu-Kashmir. Information regarding the possible attack was shared with the other security agencies, along with the Indian Army. Taking the threat of such attacks into account, the approval given by the BSF for the deployment of the Anti-Drone Systems on the border becomes extremely important.
