Rise in use of drones for railway safety

Mumbai: The Central Mumbai Railway Department has purchased two Ninja Drones to monitor the movements of railway stations, railway yards, offices and for the safety of railway assets. These drones will be utilised to provide support to the personnel deployed for security and to strengthen the safety measures. Moreover, the RPF would purchase another 17 drones for railway safety.

Passenger trains, as well as goods carrier, frequently travel via the Central Railway route. Hence, the use of a drone has been decided to assist the minimum number of officials alongside the security personnel who would face obstacles while trying to control a large region. Moreover, the trespassing taking place over the railway assets is a great cause of concern. Hence, the drones would be utilised to secure it and map it accurately. These Ninja drones are capable of real-time tracking and video streaming. The drones can cover a distance of 2 kms and fly for 25 minutes. Also, these drones can lift a weight of 2 kgs.    

The RPF has decided to use drones expansively for railway safety. So far, it has spent Rs. 31.87 lakhs and purchased nine drones for South-East Railway, Central Railway, Modern Coaching Factory, Raebareli and Southwest Railway. Moreover, it has proposed for another 17 drones. The drones would be beneficial for the safety of railway assets and yard. It would also be useful for monitoring offices and car-shed. This system will be helpful to keep an eye on gambling in railway vicinity, throwing garbage, trespassing of hawkers and so on. These drones are being known for their significant contribution in monitoring a large area with less human strength. Furthermore, these drones are also reasonable.
