Over 20 Afghan Soldiers killed by the Taliban near the Iranian Border

Kabul: While the US, Russia and China are engaged in mediating peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, the militant activates of the Taliban has intensified. A day before, Taliban militants attacked an Afghan border post in Farah province close to the Iranian border, killing more than 20 Afghan soldiers. Since last year, the attacks have increased, killing nearly 5000 Afghan soldiers in the past ten months.

On Tuesday morning, the Taliban militants attacked an Afghan border post in Farah province close to the Iranian border, killing more than 20 Afghan soldiers. There were 50 Afghan soldiers stationed at the post. After many hours of confrontation, only three managed to escape alive while at least 20 soldiers have been killed, several wounded, and the others were missing or captured by Taliban militants.

Taliban has claimed to have killed 30 Afghan soldiers and capturing the post along with the weapons. Some officials in Farah have accused Iran, of providing the insurgents with money and weapons.

Just before the attack in Farah, the militants attacked a security post in Ghazni, killing 13 soldiers. Taliban claim to have captured an important security post outside the central city. Over the past few months, the Taliban has targeted many Afghan military posts and is trying to regain its control over a more significant area. 

Some analyst fell that while the US, Russia and China are engaged in mediating peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, these intensified attacks are a means of Taliban to prove their superiority over the Afghan government.
