Seoul: The US and South Korea will continue war exercises despite North Korea’s threat of severe retaliation. The United States and South Korea announced they would not withdraw from the biggest annual exercises fearing threats from North Korea. Besides, South Korea claimed these war exercises would be important to be ready against North Korea’s provocations.
The US and South Korean military spokesmen issued a joint statement on Friday. In this, the armies of both countries will participate in two major war exercises. These war exercises will be held from the 13th to the 23rd of March. Of these, Freedom Shield will be a fully computer-based training exercise. Moreover, South Korea’s security and response capabilities will be enhanced, informed Colonel Lee Sung-Jun, a spokesman for South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
During this computer-simulated exercise, the Warrior Shield FTX war exercise between the US and South Korean armies will also occur. The plan’s response will be practised on the battlefield, said the US Army spokesman, Colonel Isaac L. Taylor. Amphibious warships of both countries will participate in this.
Meanwhile, North Korea had threatened last month that any new military exercise between the US and South Korean military would invite severe retaliation. Also, North Korea has threatened nuclear attacks. But the United States and South Korea have shown that they do not give any importance to this threat of North Korea.
