US should launch attacks on the terrorist hubs in Pakistan: US analyst Michael Rubin

Washington: – It has been three months since the US military withdrew from Afghanistan. US President Joe Biden had assured the US population that this withdrawal would not impact the security of the United States. The US analyst has pointed out that the situation is quite the opposite, with IS-Khorasan expanding in almost every city in Afghanistan. The roots of Afghan terrorism are not in Kabul and Kandahar. However, they are deep in the Pakistan capital Islamabad and the military headquarters in Rawalpindi. Rubin made a strong demand that the United States should launch attacks on these centres.

Michael Rubin, an analyst at the American Enterprise Institute-AEI and a Pentagon official, is an expert on the Gulf region. He has pointed to the ‘post-military situation in Afghanistan‘ and said that the current situation posed a threat to US security. Rubin made the United States aware of the stark reality in an article written for a US Weekly. IS-Khorasan, a dangerous terrorist organisation, has recently spread to every province of Afghanistan. In such a scenario, the United States must strike at the root of terrorism, Rubin warned in the article.

Afghanistan’s provinces of Kabul and Kandahar are not the strongholds of terrorists. Rubin also exposed Pakistan’s ‘double game’ with the United States, saying that the terrorists’ strongholds were in the Pakistani capital Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the Pakistani military headquarters. ‘Pakistan has been betraying the United States by playing such a double game for the last 20 years since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan,’ Rubin said in the article. Michael Rubin recalled that Pakistan provided US funding for the war on terror to the Taliban and provided a safe haven to Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Pakistani officials sympathetic to the terrorists are pleased with the humiliating US withdrawal from Afghanistan. At the same time, while claiming that their country is against terrorists, Pakistani diplomats are showing that they are on the side of terrorists with their actions. Thirteen years ago, the Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out a terrorist attack in Mumbai that killed more than 160 people, including six US citizens and a 13-year-old girl. Rubin pointed out that Pakistan had encouraged the terrorist organisations even after this instead of taking action against them.

Not only that, Pakistan has been backing the terrorists who have killed American citizens in Mumbai, Karachi and Kabul. Michael Rubin called on the White House and the State Department to take strong action against Pakistan taking cognisance of these facts. It is important to make Pakistan aware of the consequences and demonstrate the United States’ resolve. Michael Rubin has called on the United States to use its’ over the horizon’ strategy to target terrorists in Afghanistan, saying that the belief of the terrorists that they are safe in Pakistan should be shattered.
