There are four Ohio Class submarines in the US navy. The Ohio class submarines are considered to be the best war equipped, as compared to other submarines. These submarines have the capability even to launch ballistic nuclear weapons. The US navy despatches these submarines only for vital missions. USS Georgia is also one from the same Ohio class submarines. USS Georgia has entered the Persian Gulf for the first time, after a gap of eight years.

As per the US navy information, USS Georgia passed through the Strait of Hormuz, along with the destroyers USS Royal Port and USS Philippines Sea. A senior official from the US Fifth fleet clarified that USS Georgia and its supporting destroyers have been despatched for the security of the US marine movements. Before reaching the Persian Gulf, USS Georgia was deployed in the marine region near the US base, at Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean.

It is not clear as to how long the nuclear submarine will remain in the Persian Gulf. The United States has increased its movements in the Persian Gulf since the last few weeks. Ten days ago, the United States deployed B-52 nuclear bomb carrier bombers in the Persian Gulf. The United States announced that the bombers were deployed against the background of dangerous Iranian activities. Before that, US aircraft carrier US Nimitz was deployed in between the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. Iran is threatening to assassinate senior officials from the US military to avenge the slain Quds Forces commander General Qassem Soleimani. The US embassy in Iraq, even came under rocket attacks, on Sunday. US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, accused that an Iran affiliated terrorist organisation was responsible for the attacks. Against the background of this threat from the Iran and Iran affiliated terrorist groups, only a few hours ago, US CENTCOM Chief General Kenneth McKenzie announced that the United States was prepared, to retaliate against any attack from the Iranian side.

Whereas, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Millay, also secretly visited Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Israel. These US military officials’ visits to the region and deployment of the bombers and submarines there are indicating differently.

Meanwhile, within the next few hours of the United States report despatching a nuclear submarine to the Persian Gulf, an Israeli news agency published a report. The Israeli news agency claimed that an Israeli submarine has crossed the Suez Canal and entered the Red Sea. As per this news agency, the Egyptian government permitted the submarine’s voyage through the Suez Canal. Israel military has avoided commenting on the matter.
