US is currently in a pre-civil war-like situation, historians and academicians

Washington: At a special meeting in the White House last week, the academicians, scholars and historians in the US warned and alerted President Biden that the current situation in the US is similar to the pre-civil war of the 1860s. Last month, the University of California, a leading educational institution in the United States, published a report suggesting the possibility of a second civil war breaking out soon in the United States.

Opposition parties, media and analysts have consistently criticised the Biden administration’s policies and functioning. Multiple reports and polls have revealed that Biden has failed to address the challenges within the US. Biden has been unable to handle the 2020 election and the violence within the US Parliament premises in 2021. Members and supporters of the ruling party and the opposition were upset at how the situation was handled. There has been a growing dissent amongst US citizens due to the policies of Biden. Hence, against this background, a meeting of scholars and historians called at the White House is quite significant.

According to the Washington Post, the meeting was attended by Princeton University professor Sean Wilentz, Virginia University historian Allida Black, Presidential historian Michael Beschloss, senior journalist Anne Applebaum, Biden’s adviser Anita Dunn and Mike Donilon. In a meeting that lasted for two hours, the academicians and historians expressed concern over the growing totalitarianism in the world and drew attention to the serious threats to democracy in the United States.

At the same time, the current situation is compared with the pre-Civil War tensions in the US and pre-World War II situation.

Scholars have warned that the present situation is the greatest crisis seen in the modern history of America. The media, ex-military officers and analysts have consistently tried to draw attention to the brewing issue, which could spark a civil war in the US. At the same time, officials and analysts expressed concern that Biden’s leadership could not handle the situation.
