Two US destroyers patrol the Taiwanese marine region for the first time

Taipei/Washington: US destroyers patrolled Taiwanese waters for the first time since Speaker of the US House Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s visit. In the wake of Pelosi’s visit, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army conducted extensive and aggressive military exercises near Taiwan. It is said that the United States responded to the Chinese actions by despatching two of its destroyers while this exercise was underway. China has reacted to the voyage of American destroyers and warned that it is keeping a close eye on US warships.

Earlier this month, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan. The meeting of the US Speaker was caught in the vortex of controversy. China said the visit was a provocation and started exerting tremendous pressure on Taiwan. It was also threatened that if the leaderships of the United States and Taiwan ignored the warnings, China would retaliate strongly. Chinese People’s Liberation Army had also started military mobilization in its provinces close to Taiwan.

Between August 5th and 25th, China sent 620 fighter jets in the direction of Taiwan. Almost 300 of these fighters and bombers crossed Taiwan’s ‘median line’. Analysts and officials warn that increasing Chinese intrusion is a prelude to war.

Against this backdrop, the patrolling of two US destroyers in the maritime area of Taiwan is attracting attention. The US Navy has disclosed that the patrols carried out by the USS Antietam and USS Chancellorsville are part of the rules of free maritime movement. A few days ago, a Chinese aircraft carrier patrolled the South China Sea. After that, the United States is believed to have sent a message to China by sending its destroyers.
