Moscow: Biological military activities of the United States have escalated. The United States is trying to consolidate its strength on this front and spread it across the globe. The military actions of the United States with regard to biological research are dangerous for global security, warned a senior military officer from Russia. At the same time, Russia demanded the international community start thoroughly monitoring US research concerned with it.
The United States had set up biological military laboratories in Ukraine near the border with Russia. Russia alleged that research for the development of biological weapons is being carried out at these locations. Russia has demanded that the international community, which has criticized Russia for the Ukraine conflict, hold the United States accountable for biological laboratories in Ukraine. Russian military officials accused the United States of challenging Russian security by setting up these laboratories near the Russian border, which international organizations do not recognize. After this, Pentagon officials faced an investigation in the US Senate. At this time, Pentagon officials admitted that there were biological research laboratories in Ukraine. It was accepted in the report of the US’s ‘National Biodefense Strategy’ that biological research is being used in both fields in US laboratories worldwide. Citing the report released in October, Russia warned that US biological activities are dangerous.
The Pentagon’s ongoing biological military activities in different parts of the world can be dangerous for the international community, warned Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of Russia’s nuclear, biological and chemical protection troops. The Pentagon has said precautions would be taken to ensure that biotechnology is not used for the wrong reasons. Even so, Lt. Gen. Kirillov said Russia is suspicious of US intentions in this regard. Also, Kirillov demanded that the international community monitor US laboratories worldwide.
Meanwhile, in October itself, Russia requested the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to investigate these US laboratories. But the United States, the UK and France rejected this Russian demand using its right to veto. The ‘Biological Weapons Convention’ will be held in Geneva in the first week of December. In this meeting, Russia will again raise the issue of these US biological laboratories.
