Russian fuel company GAZPROM to shut supplies for three days -

Moscow/Kyiv: GAZPROM, the Russian company that supplies fuel to European countries, has announced to stop fuel supply for three days in the next week. ‘GAZPROM’ clarified that the fuel pipeline ‘Nord Stream 1’ supply will shut down from August 31st to September 2nd for routine maintenance. Earlier, GAZPROM had twice stopped fuel supply to European countries.

More than 30% of fuel supplied to European countries comes from Russia. It includes pipelines like Yamal, Nord Stream and Turk Stream. Nord Stream is a major pipeline that supplies fuel gas to Germany and other European countries.

Moreover, after the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, European countries have imposed significant sanctions on Russia, including the fuel sector. Against this background, Russia has started reducing its fuel supply to European countries. In the last three months, the fuel supply of European countries has been reduced by almost 60%. Therefore, there is already uneasiness in European countries and the new announcement has added to it. Most European countries have already declared an ‘energy emergency’ and imposed restrictions on fuel consumption.

Meanwhile, the Swiss police have warned that due to the electricity shortage, riots and looting may occur in Switzerland in winter. In such a situation with Cold, dark and all electrical systems shut down, citizens can take to the streets and violently express their anger, warned Freddie Fassler, a senior security official in Switzerland.
