Over the last few months, Russia has been making major military movements near the Ukraine border. Last week, the Ukrainian foreign ministry accused Russia of deploying more than 90,000 troupes near the Ukraine border to increase pressure on Ukraine and create tension. Ukraine claimed that not only on the land, but activities of Russian warships also had increased in the Black Sea region. Against this background, the US Secretary of State had said that Russia could launch an attack on Ukraine.

However, Russia has dismissed these claims. But at the same time, Foreign Minister Lavrov warned that Russia has made preparations to retaliate against the activities of the western countries. The Russian Foreign Minister warned, ‘We have repeatedly clarified that Russia has a very patient stand and will continue. Russia has not been a cause for creating any tensions. But the western countries are carrying out acts of enmity. We will retaliate equivalently, or if need be, there will be a stronger and a different kind of retaliation.’

The Russian Foreign Minister is on a visit to France and he is said to have made these statements during the visit. He also held talks with the French Foreign Minister to streamline relations between Russia and the European Union.

Meanwhile, there are indications that the tension between the western countries and Russia will fester further over the Belarus issue. Information is received that Russia has started joint military exercises with Belarus. It has been revealed that during the exercises, Russia has landed a unit of para-troupers in Belarus. It is also claimed that Russia has deployed some of its military units and defence systems in Belarus. The trips of Russian fighter jets and bombers to Belarus also have increased.

It was reported that Russia sent bombers to the North Sea region, near the United Kingdom, twice on Friday. The British air force informed that the United Kingdom sent its fighter jets to drive these bombers away. The incident of Russia sending its bombers to a region close to the border of a European country, while the tension is on the rise over the Ukraine border issue and even on the Poland-Belarus border, becomes noteworthy. Before this incident, there have been two occasions that the aircraft of Russia and NATO flew near each other’s borders. It has also been exposed that the Russian warships are surveillance of the US warships in the Black Sea region.
