South Korean President Moon Jae-in warns about the beginning of a new Cold War  

Seoul: – South Korean President Moon Jae-in warned that the Russia-Ukraine war had triggered the beginning of a new cold war. President Moon Jae-in issued this warning while addressing a function organised to commemorate the South Korean rebellion in 1919. President Moon Jae-in delivered a message to his countrymen that South Korea needs to achieve enough strength that no world superpower can pressure and subdue South Korea.

President Moon Jae-in said major upheavals have occurred in the international systems, given the Coronavirus pandemic. The ruling governments are promoting aggressive nationalism. This nationalism is being used for domination, and these tendencies are raising their heads once again. A cold war has started at the international level, which is a big cause for concern. At this time, the South Korean President mentioned the 1919 rebellion in South Korea.   

Moreover, President Moon Jae-in delivered the message ‘There is a lot of teaching in the 1919 rebellion for the South Korean people to learn. We must create history on our strength. Besides, the mighty countries should not offer opportunities to pressurise or isolate South Korea. South Korea should amass enough strength as a country for this purpose.’  

While mentioning the 1919 rebellion, President Moon Jae-in reminded, ‘The South Korean population had fought against the violence, injustice discriminations of the Japanese imperialism. Through this rebellion, the South Korean population had rejected the dominating international system. Talks are that these statements of President Moon refer to the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the fight put up by the Ukrainian population against it.   

He also appealed that South Korea and Japan need to strengthen bilateral cooperation given the rising Chinese and North Korean threat. President Moon Jae-in said that Japan could be an advanced country, but it should remember the history well and confess to the mistakes made in the past.
