Israel destroys Hamas bases after Gaza rocket attacks

Third World WarJerusalem: Hamas once again violated the Egypt-mediated ceasefire with Israel. On Wednesday, Hamas launched rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip into Israel. In retaliation, Israel destroyed the Hamas weapons factory leading to the escalation of tensions along the border with Gaza. Hamas and the Islamic Jihad have thus threatened to unite if a war broke out against Israel in the future.

Rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip towards Sderot, a city in southern Israel, on Wednesday night. The defence systems installed on the Israeli borders alerted the locals by sounding sirens after receiving information of the approaching rockets. Also, the Israeli Iron Dome system neutralised the missiles even before they could enter in the Israeli territory.

Israel-attacks-after-Gaza-rocketsThe Israeli Defence Forces have held Hamas responsible for the rocket attacks. The Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Avi Dichter announced that Hamas was in control of Gaza’s borders, and thus responsible for the attack. He went on to state that Hamas would soon receive a fitting reply for it.

Within the next few hours, on early Thursday, Israel targeted a critical Hamas installation. As per the IDF, the Israeli fighter jets destroyed a weapons factory near Khan Younis, but no casualties were recorded in the attack. Moreover, Qatar’s Ambassador in Gaza, Mohammed al-Emadi, was present at a nearby hotel at the time of the attacks, and a Palestinian newspaper affirmed that he narrowly escaped the attacks.

Last month, Israel had launched fierce attacks on Hamas and Islamic Jihad locations following a spate of rocket attacks from Gaza. Egypt had brokered talks to stop the Israeli aggression and was successful in negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Nevertheless, with the fresh rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel, the truce seems to have been scrapped.
