Iran-Venezuela sign 20-year cooperation agreement

Tehran: Iran and Venezuela signed a 20-year cooperation agreement during the visit of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to Iran. This includes cooperation in the energy, science-technology, minerals, and agriculture sectors. While the sanctions imposed on Venezuela are being withdrawn, the Venezuelan President delivered a message that there is no change in the country’s diplomatic stand by signing this agreement to increase cooperation with Iran, who stood by Venezuela during the challenging period of sanctions.

Iran-Venezuela sign 20-year cooperation agreementLast week, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro visited Iran with a high-level delegation. President Maduro discussed increasing the existing cooperation between the two countries during his meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. The agreement was signed to increase cooperation in the energy, science-technology, agriculture and tourism sectors over the next 20 years. President Maduro and President Raisi also agreed on taking the relations between the two countries to strategic levels.

Presidents of both the countries concurred on increasing the bilateral cooperation against the background of the sanctions imposed by the United States and western countries. Iranian President Raisi claimed that the US sanctions are also an opportunity to forge ahead. The countries praised each other for solid defiance of the sanctions imposed by an imperialistic adversary like the United States. President Raisi said that Iran successfully discarded the pressure of the US sanctions. After that, the Venezuelan President met the Iranian supremo, Ayatollah Khamenei.

While the Venezuelan President is visiting Iran, Venezuelan neighbour Argentina has detained a Venezuelan freight carrier aircraft. Argentina has accused the 747 aircraft of the Venezuelan national airlines of being linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. Before Venezuela, this airplane was used by the Iranian Mahan airlines in connivance with Revolutionary Guards for smuggling. Argentina announced that this action was taken against this background.

Meanwhile, the Middle Eastern media are pointing out that Iran is stressing over long-term agreements with its partner countries. In the beginning of June, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister visited Iran. Iran and Russia discussed bilateral barter trade during this visit. Discussions were also held for a 20-year agreement between the two countries. Whereas last year, Iran signed a 25-year investment and cooperation in other sectors with China. The implementation of the deal started two months ago.
