Tehran/London: Iran has sentenced former Deputy Defence Minister Alireza Akbari to death. Iran has sentenced Alireza, alleging being involved in the conspiracy to assassinate Iran’s famous nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. Iran has claimed that Akbari was a key agent of British intelligence. So until now, Iran accused Israel of being responsible for Fakhrizadeh’s murder. But now Iran has created a new sensation by claiming that Alireza was the British agent and that he participated in the conspiracy to kill Fakhrizadeh.
In 2020, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a leading scientist in Iran’s nuclear programme, was shot dead outside Tehran. Moreover, Iran had accused the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad of killing Fakhrizadeh by breaching the tight security system. Besides, Iran had also announced that eight to ten spies of Mossad had been detained in this case. Simultaneously, Iran had threatened to retaliate against the Mossad officers who planned the assassination of Fakhrizadeh.
But Iran has created a new sensation by saying that the British intelligence agency was involved in Fakhrizadeh’s murder. Accordingly, Iran’s intelligence agency blamed former Deputy Defence Minister Alireza Akbari for deliberately providing information. Alireza was Iran’s Deputy Defence Minister from 1997 to 2005. At the same time, Alireza was known as a confidant of Ali Shamkhani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Moreover, Iran has said that Alireza abused his position to provide information about Fakhrizadeh to British intelligence.
Alireza Akbari, who holds dual citizenship of Iran and the United Kingdom, was a key agent of British intelligence, Iran’s intelligence agency alleged. Iran sentenced Alireza to death after being found guilty of the world’s biggest corruption and endangering Iran’s internal and external security. Iran’s state news agency released a video regarding this. Besides, the Uk has condemned Iran’s death sentence for Alireza. The Uk demanded the release of Alireza, criticising Iran’s action against a British citizen for political revenge.
But, Gulf news agencies have pointed out that in the past two years, Iran has given various reasons for Fakhrizadeh’s murder. Iran had initially blamed Israel for Fakhrizadeh’s murder. Iran had claimed that Fakhrizadeh was killed by Israel using an AI-based machine gun. But a year ago, Iran had accused some corrupt officials in its own country’s security apparatus of Fakhrizadeh’s murder. In this case, Iran sentenced former Deputy Defence Minister Alireza to death two days ago. As a result, Gulf news agencies have pointed out that foreign intelligence agencies have penetrated Iran’s security systems.
