Iran President demands to hold elections in Afghanistan to form a government

The Taliban had declared that they did not accept democracy and the electoral process. The Taliban is also preparing to impose an Iranian-style political system in Afghanistan. In such a scenario, the advice given by the Iranian president to the Taliban becomes noteworthy.

The Iranian president has warned that a ‘popular government’ is needed in Afghanistan and those elections are needed. President Raisi has indicated that Iran will not support the Taliban regime unless it supports the Afghan people. Besides, his stand comes as a significant blow to Pakistan, which is backing the Taliban.
