An Iran-aligned group in Iraq claims responsibility for attack on a Turkish base

Baghdad: The political tension between Iran and Turkey increased on Thursday. Turkey had blamed Kurdish groups for rocket attacks on Turkish military bases in Iraq. But an Iran-aligned terrorist group in Iraq has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Turkish base. In addition, the group alleged that the Turkish military’s deployment in Iraq was illegal. Eight rockets struck the Zilkan military base in Iraq’s Nineveh province on Wednesday morning. Besides, the Turkish Army informed that two of these rockets crashed at the base. Turkey has seized military bases along the Iraqi border and Kurdish-majority areas such as Nineveh.

But the Iran-aligned terrorist group, Islamic Resistance Ahrar al-Iraq Brigade in Iraq, claimed responsibility for the attack on the Zilkan military base. Furthermore, the group said not eight but 20 rocket attacks were launched at the base, home to the Turkish military.

Additionally, The Iran-aligned group announced that the attacks were carried out to protest against the illegal deployment of the Turkish Army in Iraq. At the same time, Ahrar al-Iraq Brigade has warned that they will intrude and attack Turkey soon.
